I live near Allentown, Pennsylvania, in an area called the Lehigh Valley. Because of the high incidence of season allergies though, people sometimes call it “Sinus Valley.”
Each spring and fall, I have a few weeks of “the sneezin’ season,” and not surprisingly my kids do too. All of the sniffling and sneezing can be really annoying and uncomfortable. But I don’t like to take—or give my kids—medications if not absolutely necessary.
I was really happy when one of our Mommy MD Guides mentioned spraying nasal saline in our noses for allergies and colds. I tried Ocean Saline Nasal Spray for Kids. I found it helpful that it was specially created with a smaller tip for infants and children. Plus it can be used in conjunction with other medications and is safe for frequent daily use. It’s not an allergy medication; it simply contains salt, water, and some preservatives. (From their website: 0.65% sodium chloride saline solution made isotonic (0.9%) by the addition of preservative systems and buffers, which reduce nasal irritation. OCEAN® contains benzyl alcohol and benzalkonium chloride as preservatives.)
The spray helps to soothe dry irritated noses due to allergies and colds, and when my kids have colds I also use it to help relieve their congestion. You can buy Ocean Saline Nasal Spray for Kids at CVS for $4.99. Visit www.OceanNasalCare.com for more information.
