What’s your favorite parenting tip? When you find yourself in the midst of hormones and emotions and you are feeling decidedly unloving, call your daughter over, hug her and tell her you love her. It will do both of you a world of good.
How do you get your kids to exercise? My kids loved to swim so we spent many days poolside. They also loved to run and play on the beach and we were fortunate enough to live in Southwest Florida at the time so we went to the beach a lot.
How do you get your kids to eat well? I introduced healthy foods at a young age. I read somewhere that it takes about 16 times eating something before you develop a taste for it. I just kept trying. I was rewarded when grocery shopping with my kids who were three and five at the time, yelling “Get broccoli! Get broccoli!”
How do you recharge your own batteries? I recharge with either utter relaxation or exercise. Going on vacation and getting away from the daily hard work of medicine – like to Hawaii for instance – works great! Meditation, even for just a few minutes per day, helps too. For the other times when I need to recharge amidst the chaos, I use exercise to center myself.
