Gina Dado, MD
Dr. Dado is a mom of two daughters and an ob-gyn with Arizona OBGYN Affiliates, Paradise Valley Branch, in Scottsdale, AZ.
How many children do you have? I have two daughters, ages 11 and nine.
What’s your specialty? Ob-gyn.
What’s your favorite parenting tip? Each child is different and you need to parent each child differently according to their personality. Some need a more gentle approach; some need a drill sergeant.
What has surprised you most about parenting? Being a good parent takes work. It is a difficult job and takes a lot of time and patience to do it right.
How do you get your kids to eat healthy food? My husband and I set a good example and eat healthy. That way, it is just expected and that is the food that we provide at home. They eventually learn to like it and will thank you as they get older. And yes, we occasionally treat ourselves sparingly. It is all about moderation.
How do you work exercise into your family’s life? Working out is mandatory in my and my husbands lives. It is like getting enough sleep and going to work. You just have to do it. The kids are active in soccer, etc. but if they are having a lazy day, we go take our dogs for a walk with them, toss around a football. We limit how much TV and computer time they have. Otherwise, they would be playing games on it all day long.
