Sharon Giese, MD

Dr. Giese is a mom of one two-year-old son and a cosmetic plastic surgeon in private practice in New York City.

How many children do you have?  I have one two-year-old son.

What’s your specialty?  I’m a cosmetic plastic surgeon.

What’s your favorite parenting tip?  The most important thing is that your baby feels loved. Everything else follows from that.

What has surprised you most about parenting?  How patient I am with my son!

How do you get your kids to eat healthy food?  When babies are small, they don’t have discerning palates. As my son gets older, he has more of an opinion of what he likes. And this changes by the day. One day he’ll like a food, then suddenly the next day he won’t. I find that going out to eat is helpful because my son sees different people eating many different foods.

How do you work exercise into your family’s life?  Because I have more time on the weekends, I work out longer then. I try to get in an hour or two during the week, and go more heavy on the weekends.

How do you recharge your batteries? I enjoy cooking and gardening. My family also takes more frequent, shorter vacations, rather that one long trip.

Dr. Giese’s Q&As

My husband and I love to go out to eat. Did this all change for you when you had a baby?

My husband is allergic to nuts, and I worry our baby will have allergies too. Did you?
