How many children do you have? I have four children, ages 20, 19, 18, and 14.
What’s your specialty? My passion is wellness – specialty nutrition, fitness, and disease prevention.
What’s your favorite parenting tip? Be a stellar role model. Children respond infinitely more to actions vs. words.
What has surprised you most about parenting? That it becomes even more fun and rewarding as children grow older. My teens have been easier than my toddlers.
How do you get your kids to eat healthy food? Being a role model, involving them in food selection and preparation, and always being passionate and positive in my language regarding foods and eating.
How do you work exercise into your family’s life? Both my husband and I have always been totally committed to fitness, and our kids honestly consider regular, daily
exercise as the norm. We all run, swim, and/or go to the gym regularly. All of my kids are currently or were involved in multiple team sports during high school. Both my husband and I played college sports. Fitness is in the blood I think.
How do you recharge your batteries? My family is lucky to own a large farm in the middle of an ecological wonderland called the ACE Basin. My husband and I have a rustic cabin the there that sits right on the river. It is a sanctuary and where we spend about every free moment we have. I am an avid birth watcher and kayaker, and the ACE Basin is a paradise for both. Cooking is another big de-stressor for me. I am convinced that chopping vegetables is a form of meditation!
