What’s your favorite parenting tip? Having a happy and loving marriage is the best gift you can give your child.
What has surprised you most about parenting? How scared I get when she’s sick. Having medical knowledge is a double-edged sword. I either think a fever is nothing or leukemia! It’s hard to find that balance. I leave the doctoring up to my daughter’s pediatrician!
How do you get your kids to eat healthy food? My husband and I enjoy eating well and we eat breakfast and most dinners together as a family. We model and we don’t pressure. Family meals are fun and a refuge from the busy day. Pressure in feeding backfires! She’s an adventurous eater.
How do you work exercise into your family’s life? It is really hard. We live in Minnesota where it gets very cold. We do a lot of indoor playgrounds, open gyms, and community pools. I use the Wii fit when I am working from home and swim once a week. (Caution with the Wii Fit. it has terrible “medical” advice on BMI and weight. I always make sure to skip over the body test and ignore its advice. It can be misunderstood and a real downer for people who struggle with body image issues. Be aware if your kids are using it.)
