Our Mommy MD Guide’s reply: One of my favorite snacks, isn’t really a snack at all, but a beverage. I’ll drink a box of Horizon organic milk. It’s low in fat and high in calcium. The boxes are a perfect portion. I prefer the chocolate flavor, but the vanilla is good too.

Our Mommy MD Guide’s reply: I drink at least two cups of freshly brewed unsweetened tea each day. Tea is calorie free, and it boosts energy, enhances immunity, prevents cancer, and protects against heart disease.
I also aim to drink two liters of plain clean water a day.
I completely avoid drinking all sugary beverages, such as soda, sweet tea, fruit drinks, chocolate milk, and dessert coffees. These beverages actually work against weight loss. They drive your blood sugar down too low too fast—which then makes you hungry!

Our Mommy MD Guide’s reply: When I decided that I wanted to get pregnant I was about 30 pounds overweight. I had observed that women who began pregnancy overweight didn’t seem to enjoy the “fun” second trimester as much as women who began pregnancy at a healthy weight. The first thing I did to lose weight is I stopped drinking calories. I’m a big hot tea drinker; tea is my thing. I used to put a lot of sugar in it, and I cut that out. I was also drinking a lot of Southern style sweet iced tea, and I stopped that too.
The ironic thing about drinking is that it doesn’t fill you up. If you ate a 300-calorie snack, you’d feel full. But if you drink 300 calories of soda, it doesn’t fill you up. You want to eat a snack with it!
I switched to putting Spenda in my tea and drinking water instead of sweet tea. I’m not going to waste calories, I thought.
