CVS Test

My doctor has recommended a CVS? Did you have one?

Our Mommy MD Guide’s reply: Yes, I had a CVS. It’s an invasive test, not used very commonly. It’s one of the early diagnostic tests for Down syndrome and other chromosomal disorders. I decided to do it because of my age; I was 39 when my second child was born.

The CVS is a placental biopsy for chromosomes. It’s similar to an amniocentesis, but its advantage over amnio is that it can be done earlier.

I won’t mince words; it was painful. It can cause a lot of cramping and discomfort. Imagine a needle going into your uterus. I planned to take the whole day off after my CVS, which was a good idea.
