Fatigue in Second Pregnancy
I’m in my second pregnancy and so tired. How do you find the energy to make it through the day?
Our Mommy MD Guide’s reply: During the first three months of my first pregnancy, I was so unbelievably fatigued. If someone would have said they’d shoot me if I didn’t get up off of the couch, I would have said, just go ahead and get it over with.
I was even more tired during my second pregnancy. It’s challenging to find the energy to take care of your older child because you’re so drained. What was comforting the second time around was that I knew the fatigue was going to pass. I told myself if my child had to watch an extra video a day so I could get some rest, it was ok. I’d engage her in activities where she could play and I could sit (or better yet, lie down) next to her. That way she knew I was there, but I could still relax.
I think this is a key time to engage the help of family and friends! It’s not a bad favor to ask a family member or friend to watch your children for an extra few hours so you can rest.
