My doctor just prescribed at-home bed rest for the last two months of my pregnancy. How will I make it through this?
Our Mommy MD Guide’s reply: I had two very difficult pregnancies, and I had to be bedridden for the end of both of them. The funny thing is, at first I thought I’d fill my days doing interesting things like learning how to play the piano and building an internet community. I ended up watching soap operas and reading stupid novels. One productive thing I did was sew baby clothes. It must have been some sort of a hormonal surge though, because today I can hardly sew on a button.
During my second pregnancy, I needed some help caring for my son. I was born in France, so I called some friends there and asked for the names of teenaged girls to come help me in New York. I had a lot of candidates, and the 16-year-old girl who finally arrived really saved me during that period! An au pair might not be an option certainly for everyone, but the point is, don’t be afraid to ask for help.
