I’ve never had hemorrhoids, but I’m in my third trimester and they appeared out of nowhere. Did you have them?
Our Mommy MD Guide’s reply: During my pregnancy, I tried to eat a lot of fibers, fruits, vegetables and natural grains like wheat breads are the best source. Drink plenty of liquid to prevent difficult bowel movements which lead to hemorrhoids. This is also very important after you have the baby because if it hurts to go to the bathroom, you’ll try to avoid going, which will make your stools harder and more difficult to pass. This in turn can aggravate hemorrhoids.
Hemorrhoids are very hard to avoid during pregnancy. Even if you’re not prone to hemorrhoids usually, during pregnancy your anatomy is different. The baby is heavy and pushing on your perineal floor and on the veins. This puts you at risk for hemorrhoids which are swollen veins that can be internal or external.
My third baby had to be delivered secondary to the unbearable pain triggered by the acute onset of hemorrhoids, mainly after the baby’s head was so engaged in the birth canal putting extra pressure on the veins. Labor was nothing compared with that hemorrhoid pain.
Amazingly, after my baby was born, the pain was immediately resolved. It was like turning off a switch.
