Joanna is a mom of two, a runner, a member of MOTR (Mommy On The Run), and a licensed clinical social worker.

How many children do you have?  I have two girls: five years old and almost three weeks old.

What’s your favorite parenting tip?   You have to be firm and consistent, but you also need to really listen to your children and be present to them.

What has surprised you most about parenting?  The weight and gravity of our responsibility as parents. I want to give my children the best start possible, and instill them with the values to grow up and become caring, compassionate, all-around good human beings.

How do you get your kids to eat healthy food?  I always try to include fruits and veggies with meals, but also for snacks.

How do you work exercise into your family’s life?  By making sure we get outdoors. Also my husband plays softball, and my five-year-old takes a dance class, is learning to ride her two wheeler, and runs in local kids’ races. I run and try to fit in some crosstraining when I can. We definitely model fitness and exercise for our kids, whether we realize it or not. This was so evident to me a couple years ago when my daughter started running around the kitchen and family room, pumping her arms, looking down at her “watch,”  and saying, “Mommy, I’m practicing my running!”

How do you recharge your batteries?  I take long runs, a night out with my husband and/or my friends, and vacations.
