How many children do you have?  I have one beautiful daughter who is 15 years of age and the light of my life!

What’s your favorite parenting tip?  Being a mother is the most wonderful and fulfilling experiences I know! If there’s any tip I have for other parents out there, it would be to not waste a single moment! Make each and every day count with your children. So many times, we as parents get so busy with day to day activities that we put off taking time out, even if it’s for 15 to 20 minutes a day to just sit down and talk to your child. Ask them how their day was and what’s going on in their life. Just really connect! I make dinner time every night our special sit-down moment to catch up on the day, and we put our cell phones away, turn off the TV, and talk! As simple as that sounds, it’s one of the most important things a parent can do with their children.

What has surprised you most about parenting?  I think one of the things that continues to surprise me about parenting is as parents we hope to teach our children everything they need to know to equip them for their future. From day one, we plan each and every step for our children, and then there’s “that day” unexpected that your child teaches you something. Perhaps sitting in the car with a million things going on and out of the blue, your child says something so profound that it makes you think or even change your mind! A child’s mind is the most amazing and beautiful thing, and if we listen there are moments in life when they teach us as well!

How do you get your kids to eat healthy food?  Our world has changed so much and it seems everywhere you turn around, there’s a new fast-food place that promises to get your food out faster than the guy down the street. I admit, there are days that when we have practice and it’s getting late and there’s still homework to do, cooking a big meal is the last thing on my mind! I think it all comes down to good habits and teaching your kids that there are choices no matter when you eat. I also keep healthy choices in my home so when my hungry teen wants a snack, she grabs fruit rather than something unhealthy.

How do you work exercise into your family’s life?  Again, I think it has to do with healthy choices for a healthy lifestyle. I put a treadmill right in the main living area of my home so we can still visit and interact and even see the TV and get a great workout. It’s difficult at times to squeeze in a workout after a long day, but I try to make it fun and I feel it encourages my child  to have a healthier lifestyle!

How do you recharge your batteries?  This is a great question, and I think all moms need to do this for themselves. No matter what it is that you like—it can be painting, walking, or even a nice, long bubble bath—take time for something that you enjoy! Something that means something to you and makes you feel good. I think as parents, we sometimes put ourselves on the back burner because we are so busy and we tend to put ourselves off. I make time for a few things I really enjoy and it makes a big difference for my week ahead!
