Amanda is a mom of two and the founder/designer of A Jaron Fine Jewelry.
How many children do you have? I have boy/girl twins age seven.
How did you come up with the idea for your company? I have been making jewelry ever since I can remember. As soon as I realized you could make coveted sculpture out of gold and diamonds, I never went back to clay. I never thought about doing anything else! I was born an artist!
What’s your favorite parenting tip? Do not lose yourself! Relax enjoy watching your children grow up and do not over scheduling of your life. In this age of the SuperMom, we believe we can do it all for our kids and us. Today we seem to believe that if we don’t watch over our children’s every move—don’t sign them up for best preschool before they’re even born and don’t take them to every ballet, soccer, and piano class offered we are somehow failures as parents.
This back-to-back scheduling can cost moms and the children precious time to get to know each other. But mostly, moms tend to lose themselves. We lose our patience, their passion, and their sense of purpose and the kids get over stimulated!
I believe you are the best mom when you also have your own life and your kids have time to just play and have family time. They will have years to enjoy a competitive and an over stimulated teen/adult life. Just take time to stop and enjoy each other. Time flies, and remember yourself too: If Mommy is happy, the family is happy!
How do you get your family to eat healthy food and/or exercise? Healthy food: I am a vegetarian, so that is not a challenge in our house! My favorite thing ever is to watch my kids devour artichokes! Exercise: We moved from New York City to Florida. It is sunny year round here! Love being able to go to the beach 365 days a year!
How do you recharge your batteries? As a jewelry designer: Designing in my studio is my all time favorite thing to do! I always look forward to going to “work”! I love what I do!
