Colleen is a mom of two and founder and creative director of Peternity: celebrating the love and lives of your pets.
How many children do you have and what age groups? I have two children, ages six (boy) and four (girl).
What’s your favorite parenting tip? Out of sight, out of mind. I think this is the best diversion trick when my kids are fixated on something that they really want that I really don’t want them to have or to eat! They completely forget about it. Works like a charm. I do it every year with Halloween and Easter candy. And then I get to throw it away!
What has surprised you most about parenting? The fascination of watching them change, develop and grow into individual, creative and amazing people.
How do you get your kids to eat healthy food? By example. Our kids eat salad and vegetables and enjoy them because they always have. We also explain the importance of eating fresh foods vs packaged and fast foods. They get it.
How do you work exercise into your family’s life? Living in California allows us to play outside all year round. We play a lot of sports in the back yard and always encourage them to be active. They also see us exercising regularly.
How do you recharge your batteries? I need to do more of that, but dates with my husband, quiet reading time and naps here and there. Cooking is also therapeutic to me if I’m not cooking in a rush.
