Marie is a mom of two and a writer in Emmaus, PA.

How many children do you have? I have a five-year-old son and a one-year-old girl.

What’s the best parenting advice you’ve ever received? It’s advice that came from my friend’s father. She told me that her father reminds her that she’s the mom, so she knows what’s best for her kids.

How do you get your kids to eat healthy food? It’s hard! My son likes yellow rice, so I sneak in some corn, or else he’ll notice it and refuse to eat it. He likes salsa, so I give him baked tortilla chips or a flour tortilla to dip in salsa.

Overall, my strategy is not to have candy, cookies, brownies, or cake in the house too often because he’ll continue to ask for that and not want to eat his meals.

How do you get your kids to exercise? I take the baby for walks in the stroller, use my treadmill while she’s asleep or in her jumperoo, and I try to do a Pilates DVD almost every day, even if I start but don’t have the chance to finish it. When I get on the floor to exercise, my son will join me to do the exercises (which is cute), but my daughter takes the opportunity to use me as a jungle gym. It’s a constant struggle to get exercise in.

What do you do to recharge your batteries? Just got back from a vacation at the beach, and that was pretty perfect. We’re all happy at the beach or swimming in the pool.
